After last yearās monumental upset inĀ College Station, it is going to take more than aĀ prayer or two for Texas A&M to put together a winningĀ streak over SEC West division rival Alabama.
Not to say that last yearās incredible home upset was a fluke, but donāt count on Texas A&M beating Alabama in back-to-back seasons.
Although Jimbo Fisher was the first former assistant to crack the Nick Saban code, we have seen next to nothing out of his Aggies that leads us to believe they can make it two in a row over the Crimson Tide. It might be a primetime affair, but it is at the Death Star known as Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama might be beatable, but it would be beyond shocking if they were to fall here.
Here is why anything short of a blowout victory by the Crimson Tide should be a cause for concern.
Alabama football: Do not expect the Crimson Tide to be upset by Texas A&M here
Even though reigning Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young is a game-time decision for Saturday, Jalen Milroe is more than capable of guiding the Crimson Tide to victory here. He did just that vs. Arkansas in Fayetteville before running back Jahmyr Gibbs took the game over in the fourth quarter. Not only that, but Texas A&M is dealing with some major issues at quarterbackā¦
With LSU transfer quarterback Max Johnson breaking his hand, and possibly ending his first season in College Station, that means it will be The Haynes King Show once again for the Aggies. Although he is an athletic quarterback, throwing the football downfield has never been his forte. That is a great way to not beat Alabama in their place of football worship. You have to make plays!
Even if Alabama had been pushed to the brink by Texas earlier in the season, as well as having issues with Arkansas for the better part of the game last weekend, Texas A&M is not anywhere close to being on their level. This is an Aggies team that lost at home to Appalachian State and got pushed around by Mississippi State on the road in Starkville. It would be shocking if they went 8-4.
Then again, we have seen other high-quality teams like Alabama have trouble putting away lesser foes. Ohio State struggled offensively vs. a Notre Dame team before we knew Notre Dame wasnāt anything special. It has been two weeks since weāve seen Georgia mush the opposition, as the Dawgs had trouble keeping Kent State out of the end zone, and later scoring points on Missouri.
Ultimately, Texas A&M upsetting Alabama would be the most shocking outcome of the SEC season thus far, possibly throughout all of college football. See, this game is personal for the Crimson Tide. It was their lone regular-season loss a year ago. Fisher and Saban had some highly-publicized beef during the offseason. This is a game Alabama definitely circled on the calendar.
For Texas A&M to win, the Aggies must play an A-plus game and get a C- effort out of Alabama.
