Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 6: No. 2-1

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Though it was an inauspicious start for Georgia after lackluster performances in the past two weeks, the end result was exactly what Bulldogs fans were looking for on Saturday when they welcomed a struggling Auburn team on its third-string quarterback between the Hedges.

Stetson Bennett IV found his mojo in this game as, even though he didn’t pass for a touchdown, he was quite good in going 22-of-32 for 208 yards. He also broke off a sick 64-yard touchdown run that snuffed out any light left in the Tigers’ eyes.

Georgia will be at home again next week when they take on Vanderbilt before a week off and then the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville against rival Florida. Having said that, the 42-10 win over Auburn was exactly what the Dawgs needed to quell any concerns that they aren’t a legit title contender again.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

There are going to be people who are going to argue that Alabama should drop from No. 1 after Georgia did the same a week ago. But that doesn’t make much sense when you look at it. Playing a team full of former 5-star recruits that has underperformed but has long given the Crimson Tide trouble and with Bryce Young unable to play, Nick Saban’s team came out with the win.

Make no mistake, it was close as the Tide needed what can only be described as a questionable play call from Jimbo Fisher to stave off Texas A&M at the 2-yard line on the final play of the game. And this is now the second time Alabama has been in serious trouble. But at the end of the day, they faced a ton of adversity and came out as the victors. If they want to silence the doubters, doing so next week against Tennessee is the perfect opportunity.
