Johnny Manziel could not believe the horrible play call made by Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher on the final play of the potential upset bid at Bryant-Denny Stadium vs. No. 1 Alabama.

Texas A&M football legend Johnny Manziel was beside himself after Jimbo Fisher made one of the worst goal-line calls you will ever see with the potential to upset No. 1 Alabama at Bryant-Denny.

Although the Aggies pulled off the upset bid a year ago in College Station, Texas A&M still has not defeated the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa since Manziel had his Heisman moment way back in 2012. Even though Alabama started a backup quarterback in Jalen Milroe over last year’s Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, the Aggies were two yards away from ruining their promising season.

Despite having a mobile quarterback in Haynes King, Fisher called a hitch route in the corner of the end zone.

Had it been completed, it still would have been short of the goal line.

To pull off an upset bid like this, you have to be fearless, and Fisher decided to play it safe here.

Alabama remains undefeated, while the Aggies suffered their third loss on the season already.

With Fisher’s play-calling being a massive issue through the first half of the season, something has to give, right?

Texas A&M: Johnny Manziel was upset over Jimbo Fisher’s awful play-calling

With the amount of five-star talent Fisher and his staff are bringing into College Station, why is the offense so incredibly pedestrian and this conservative? Not to say Texas A&M is on Alabama’s level from a talent standpoint just yet, but it is not like they are completely devoid of talent either. The athletes on this team played more than well enough to potentially pull off this huge upset bid.

Fisher may be a great recruiter, but he is starting to lose his reputation as a quarterback whisperer. His offense has not evolved since he won a national title with Jameis Winston at Florida State nearly a decade ago. To be quite frank, Winston was the last high-end quarterback to play for Fisher. Kellen Mond may have had his moments, but he was never Johnny Football at Texas A&M…

Ultimately, something has to change in College Station. Fisher might be reluctant to give up play-calling, but he needs to bring in someone who is on the rise in that department and fully embrace the CEO-type of head-coaching role he needs to at this point of his career. Otherwise, Texas A&M will never be better than the third-best SEC team as long as Alabama and Georgia are humming.

To be that close to an upset and come up painfully short should have all Gig Em Nation apoplectic.
