A report indicated that Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels was done for the season. Daniels tweeted out that that was news to him.
This past weekend, the Kansas University campus was the host for ESPN College GameDay, as the undefeated Jayhawks hosted the TCU Horned Frogs. Quarterback Jalon Daniels starred throughout the team’s season, but facing the Horned Frogs, Daniels suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter that sidelined him for the remainder of the game. Kansas fought hard, but they lost 38-31 to TCU.
On Tuesday, reports indicated that Daniels had suffered a Grade 3 shoulder separation and that he was finished for the season. Daniels saw this report circulating on Twitter, and decided to respond. The words from Daniels were “sheesh…that’s news to me.”
Jalon Daniels responds to report that he is out for season due to injury
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold announced during a press conference on Tuesday that Daniels is designated as doubtful for the team’s Week 7 game against the Oklahoma Sooners. Daniels did not practice that day.
The injury occurred towards the end of the second quarter against the Horned Frogs. As he scrambled outside of the pocket and towards the right sideline, Daniels was tackled to the ground, and landed hard on his right shoulder. He returned to the sidelines wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
At the time of his exit, Daniels had thrown five for 89 yards on 10 attempts, while running for six yards on seven carries.
Jason Bean entered in relief of Daniels, and he helped Kansas stay in the game against TCU. Bean completed 16-of-24 pass attempts for 262 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Kansas lost 38-31.
Daniels received Heisman buzz through the first six weeks of the college football season. On the year, Daniels threw for 1,072 yards, 11 touchdowns, and one interception (66.7 completion percentage), while running for 335 yards and five touchdowns on 53 carries.
With Daniels doubtful for Week 7, it is very likely that Jayhawks fans will see Bean get the start against a Sooners defense that surrendered 49 points to the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Showdown last week.
