The Auburn Tigers’ game to the Ole Miss Rebels was delayed late in the second half due to lightning, further extending Bryan Harsin’s head coaching career.
Seven weeks into the college football season, there have been multiple universities deciding that they have seen enough from their head coaches. Scott Frost, Herm Edwards, Geoff Collins, Paul Chryst, and Karl Dorrell were all fired by their respective programs, some of those names being on the hot seat entering the season. One name that was on the hot seat but still remains is Bryan Harsin.
It is well known that Harsin’s first season with Auburn was a disaster, highlighted by the huge turnover on the roster and coaching staff. This season, Auburn is 3-3 on the year entering Week 7, where they took on the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels.
The game was essentially over, with the Tigers trailing 48-34 with under seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. However, the contest went into a weather delay due to lightning in the Oxford area.
Bryan Harsin’s tenure at Auburn extended due to weather delay
Talk about delaying the inevitable.
Auburn could do nothing to stop Ole Miss’ ground attack, as they ran for a ridiculous 448 yards on 69 carries in the game. Not to mention that the Rebels were able to convert on 12-of-19 third down attempts, as opposed to the Tigers, who went 5-for-14.
The Tigers are now 3-4 on the season, there of those losses coming against ranked programs. Now, they enter a bye week before they play against the Arkansas Razorbacks. But will Harsin still be coaching the team? That remains to be seen.
It goes without saying that Harsin’s time with Auburn had not gotten off to an ideal start. Just prior to the start of the 2022 season, Auburn’s athletic director Allen Greene stepped down. That put Harsin’s future with the team in further doubt. Now, with the team once again trending towards a losing season, could the Tigers decide to make a coaching change sooner rather than later?
