Tennessee football goalposts now belong to the streets of Knoxville
Tennessee football fans lifted the goalposts out of Neyland Stadium and paraded them in the streets of Knoxville after beating Alabama.
Tennessee’s epic victory over Alabama is going to go down as a night to remember for just about everyone in Knoxville.
But what image will reign supreme? Will it be Hendon Hooker slinging the ball to Bru McCoy to set up the game-winning field goal? Will it be Chase McGrath booting it through the uprights? Will it be the crowd gathered on the field in an orange mass? Will it be Peyton Manning lighting up a victory cigar?
Maybe it’ll be the goalposts being carried out of the stadium and into the streets of Knoxville?
Tennessee football’s goalposts are in the streets
Leave it to Tennessee fans to do something this wild to celebrate their victory. It’s just a shame the goalposts are going to end up in someone’s front lawn like that Dr. Pepper Fansville commercial.
The Volunteers deserve to celebrate this one. They hadn’t beat Alabama in over a decade. They came into this one undefeated and hoping to truly enter the College Football Playoff conversation. It was mission accomplished on that front.
Tennessee didn’t luck into the win, even if Alabama was uncharacteristically sloppy. The offense overwhelmed the Crimson Tide defense at every turn. They scored 21 points in the first quarter and kept their foot on the gas late. And when Alabama missed a go-ahead kick late, Hooker and company made them pay for the mistake by setting up a game-winner of their own.
Now the road to the SEC title is clear. If Tennessee could beat Alabama, what’s to stop them from knocking off Georgia in a couple of weeks too?
