The Atlanta Falcons aren’t off to a great start this season with a 2-3 record, but their throwback uniforms seem to be their lucky charm.

The Atlanta Falcons weren’t off to the greatest start this season with a 2-3 record until Week 6. They wore their throwback uniforms on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, and they’ve miraculously put up a great performance with them.

Jake Gordon of SportsTalkATL Tweeted, “If you’re the Falcons how do you even consider going back to the regular uniforms? I haven’t seen this team play defense like this… maybe ever.”

The uniforms tie back to the start of the franchise in 1966, and players feel more connected to the team and inspired in the throwbacks.

According to Scott Bair of the Falcons official website, safety Erik Harris said, “I think anytime you can wear any type of throwback and you see the guys that came before you; Hall of Famers and really good players, it’s pretty cool that you can wear that same uniform, especially the red ones.”

The 49ers were expected to be a tough matchup for the Falcons, so Atlanta’s performance is far from disappointing. They pulled off a 28-14 win.

The Niners have the best defense in the NFL, according to Matt Johnson of SportsNaut. However, they have a few of their best defensive players out for Week 6, such as defensive end Nick Bosa and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley. These players being down likely makes success more difficult to achieve.

Bosa’s absence certainly left a big hole in the roster, but the 49ers still had a shot of stopping the Falcons offense. They weren’t able to do enough, however, and Atlanta logged the Week 6 victory to even their record to 3-3.

The uniforms seem to have provided the extra kick they needed to win.
