Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Hendon Hooker is biggest threat to CJ Stroud
By Scott Rogust
Hendon Hooker may have had his Heisman moment for the 2022 season. With the game tied 49-49 with just 15 seconds remaining, Hooker threw two huge completions to Ramel Keyton and Bru McCoy to set the Volunteers up for a 40-yard field goal attempt. Chase McGrath hit the ugliest, successful field goal imaginable to give Tennessee the victory over Alabama.
In the game, Hooker threw 21 completions for 385 yards, five touchdowns and one interception on 30 attempts. Hooker also ran for 56 yards on 14 carries.
On the season, Hooker has thrown for 1,817 yards, 15 touchdowns and one interception.
Hooker and Tennessee take on UT Martin in Week 8.
C.J. Stroud did not play in Week 7, as the Ohio State Buckeyes had a bye week. Even so, the numbers that Stroud has put up so far this season, it is hard to remove him from the No. 1 spot on this rankings list.
Just last week, Stroud threw for 361 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception while completing 21-of-26 pass attempts in Ohio State’s 49-20 win over Michigan State.
On the season, Stroud has recorded a 70.6 completion percentage, 1,737 yards, 24 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Stroud returns from the bye week to take on an Iowa Hawkeyes team that has averaged just 14.6 points per game this season. It should be an easy day at the office for Stroud.
