The Phillies are back, and the fans in South Philadelphia are going absolutely nuts. They can be heard throughout the city.
The Philadelphia Phillies haven’t been to the postseason since 2011, and a trip to the NLCS has Philly fans understandably psyched. Philadelphia sports fans have quite the reputation for better or for worse, but you sure as heck can’t say they don’t show out for their teams.
As the Phils took a 2-1 lead in Game 3 over the San Diego Padres, fans (including Miles Teller!) were going ballistic. So much so that they could be heard over a mile away in residential South Philly neighborhoods.
Check out the footage from Frankie Streff, a South Philly resident:

Streff claims he didn’t edit it, but you be the judge! He says it was recorded near Front and Oregon streets, which is a 1.4 mile walk from Citizens Bank Park. As the crow flies, it’s 1.04 miles. Another fan claims (with video!) they heard a faint roar from over a mile and a half away.

If you’re skeptical, some fans had sound warnings going off on their watches that were at the game itself.

Someone’s watch reported 119 decibels. That’s very loud. The Hearing Center of Excellence says that’s on par for a rock concert or auto racing, which people usually wear ear plugs for.
Listening to @RealGlenMacnow right now talk about how loud #phillies fans were at #citizensbankpark. My watch said 119 decibels. pic.twitter.com/xtxRvVscxZ

Maybe bring some earmuffs if you’re going to Game 4 on Saturday.
Phillies are making a deep run and fans have every right to be excited
The Phillies haven’t been to the postseason since 2011, and in their first year back they’ve upset the competition and made it all the way to the NLCS. Now with a lead in the league championship, they are getting closer to competing for a World Series for the first time since 2009 when they lost the World Series. In 2008, they won the whole thing.
Philly fans have enjoyed relative success over the last few years. The Eagles (still undefeated this season!) won the Super Bowl in 2017 and have been to the postseason three times since. The Sixers have disappointed in the postseason year after year but are perennial contenders led by Joel Embiid. The Flyers, well, they’re there!
This year, things are finally coming together and paying off since the big Bryce Harper acquisition in 2019.
Lots of reasons for Philly fans to be loud.
