Calvin Ridley is still serving a suspension, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are still happy to pick him up in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons.
Here’s a name I bet you didn’t think you’d hear on deadline day. Calvin Ridley is heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In a trade with the Jaguars, the Falcons sent their suspended receiver in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick. Ridley has been serving a suspension for gambling on NFL games, which is against league policy.
The conditional pick is a bit complicated, but here’s Adam Schefter breaking it down:
Here are the conditions on the 2024 4th rounder that is going from Jags to Falcons, per source.

It stays as a 4 if Calvin Ridley is on the roster.
It goes to a 3 if Ridley reaches certain incentives.
And it becomes a 2 if the Jaguars sign Ridley to a contract extension. https://t.co/e6yoxa05fh
Twitter was on one with Calvin Ridley reaction
Given the very unique circumstances with Ridley’s suspension, the Twitter reaction was good for some side-splitting laughs on a late lunch on Tuesday. Of course, there were some references to his gambling:

Falcons trading Calvin Ridley a day after Cordarrelle Patterson wore a "free Calvin Ridley" shirt to a game is just elite Falconing

Here’s the shirt in question:

This is a very sobering reminder that the league has some really warped priorities when it comes to suspension:
Just a reminder that Calvin Ridley is serving a larger suspension for betting on a sports game than Deshaun Watson. The NFL is really backwards sometimes

Yes, Ridley broke a rule, and you lose a lot of purity to the game if players were allowed to wager. That said, Ridley was not even with the team when he made bets. The fact that he’s receiving such a punishment is somewhat ridiculous compared to lesser punishments for what most would consider much more grave actions.
And, yeah, I almost stole this headline:
Headline: Jaguars take gamble by trading for Calvin Ridley.
