The first College Football Playoff rankings were revealed in Week 10 on Tuesday night and the media had plenty of thoughts about the CFP rankings.Ā
Coming into Week 10, one of the biggest dominoes set to fall was how the committee would rank the best teams in the country for the first College Football Playoff rankings. There were big questions about whether or not Georgia, the team ranked atop the AP Top 25, would hold off Tennessee (or even Ohio State) for that spot in the CFP rankings.
But there was no time for speculating when you get down to it. In the end, all of the debate didnāt matter until Tuesday night with the reveal of the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season.
At long last, though, we have our first picture of what the playoff rankings looking like with Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia being the Top 4 but Clemson jumping over Michigan for the last spot in the Playoff as of now.
But letās look at the full Top 25 CFP rankings before diving into what college football media had to say.
College Football Playoff Rankings: Top 25 in Week 10
- Tennessee Volunteers
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Clemson Tigers
- Michigan Wolverines
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- TCU Horned Frogs
- Oregon Ducks
- USC Trojans
- LSU Tigers
- Ole Miss Rebels
- UCLA Bruins
- Kansas State Wildcats
- Utah Utes
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Illinois Fighting Illini
- North Carolina Tar Heels
- Oklahoma State Cowboys
- Tulane Green Wave
- Syracuse Orange
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons
- NC State Wolfpack
- Oregon State Beavers
- Texas Longhorns
- UCF Knights
Tennessee getting the No. 1 spot was a shock to some, but one that we could see coming. Meanwhile, Georgia going all the way down to No. 3 was a shock as well. And Michigan fans surely arenāt going to be happy about the fact that an undefeated team is not inside the Top 4.
College football media reactions to first 2022 CFP rankings
With a big reveal like this and some surprises, college football media had plenty to say about the matter.

Two years ago at this time Tennessee was in the middle of a stretch where the Vols would lose seven of eight games, and each of those Ls were by double-digits. And now they're No. 1. UH-maazing turnaround in Knoxville.

#6 Alabama vs. #10 LSU
#1 Tennessee vs. #3 Georgia
#4 Clemson vs. Notre Dame
How the game in Athens ends will be very key for both.
If youāre upset about Michigan being #5 in the CFP rankings on November 1st, letās chill.

It legitimately means nothing. Just win. It will take care of itself. I promise.
The CFP rankings are not real for now. It's just a reality show. Don't get outraged. Breathe. #GoBlue

Clemson in BUT TCU AND MICHIGAN ARE NOT š
Dawgs #3 ok now Kirby Smart has a MASSIVE CHIP on their shoulder
Rocky Top is #1
Ranking one team ahead of another to send a message about nonconference scheduling instead of ranking how teams have played against who theyāve played is 4D chess I donāt need from the playoff committee. (Not that it matters with Michigan playing Ohio State, but still.)
ā Bill Connelly (@ESPN_BillC) November 1, 2022
Michigan should try to swap out one of those non-conference opponents next season. It looks like the College Football Playoff committee decided to start caring about those games for the first time this year.

The sentiment from many media members and fans is that these initial rankings only matter but so much. There is still a full month of the regular season and then conference championship games left on the docket, meaning that there is a lot that is still going to happen in the season.
Some fans are still going to be angry, though. But one thing thatās for certain is that Week 10 will offer even more clarity with Tennessee facing Georgia in Athens and then LSU hosting Alabama for a pair of Top 10 SEC matchups.
