The Philadelphia Phillies bats were too much for the Houston Astros, as they won Game 3 7-0 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Game 3 of the 2022 World Series was originally scheduled for Monday night, but due to rain, it was postponed to Tuesday night. Philadelphia Phillies fans anxiously waited an extra day to watch their favorite team face off against the Houston Astros, and hopefully take a 2-1 lead with a Game 3 victory.

The Phillies provided the fanbase with a stress-free night, and gave them over three hours of entertaining baseball, as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Astros. Philadelphia’s bats were the heroes of the night, as they scored all of their runs on five home runs off Houston starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.

The game went the way of the Phillies ever since the game started. Ranger Suarez retired Houston’s first three batters on nine pitches in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning Bryce Harper put Philadelphia on the board first with a two home run to right field.

Taking the advice he received from Harper, third baseman Alec Bohm hit a solo homer to left field to give Philadelphia a 3-0 lead. Later that inning, Brandon Marsh hit a one-run homer that just went over the right field wall to extend the lead to 4-0.

Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, McCullers surrendered a two-run homer to dead center field to Kyle Schwarber, and a solo shot to Rhys Hoskins to put the Astros in a 7-0 hole before being pulled from the game by manager Dusty Baker.

McCullers now holds the distinction for surrendering the most home runs in a single World Series game in history with five.

Philadelphia’s pitching staff played a role in the win as well, surrendering zero runs on the night, even though they struck out just seven batters and allowed just five hits.

The Phillies are now two wins away from winning the World Series for the first time since 2008. If they win the next two games, they can celebrate in front of their fans at Citizens Bank Park.
