Does LSU have path to CFP after first College Football Playoff rankings?
By Scott Rogust
The LSU Tigers were ranked 10th in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season. Do they actually have a chance to make the semifinals?
The College Football Playoff selection committee unveiled their first rankings for the 2022 season. As is the case every time their list is revealed, there is an instant debate as to whether they got it right.
Debate aside, the top four are Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia, and Clemson in that exact order, with Michigan ranking at No. 5 and Alabama receiving the No. 6 spot. Just outside of the top six are the LSU Tigers, who received the tenth-overall ranking on the first list. The program has caught fire this season and put itself in the CFP spotlight after upsetting the Ole Miss Rebels to hand them their first loss.
But is there a path to the College Football Playoff available to them?
Does LSU have a chance to make the College Football Playoff?
They certainly do have a shot to make it a possibility. What they would need to do is win out the remainder of the season and win the SEC Championship Game to get that a chance at that opportunity.
LSU has four more regular season games on its schedule. This weekend, they face the Crimson Tide. A win would certainly propel them over Alabama to help increase their odds. From there, they face off against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Nov. 12, the UAB Blazers on Nov. 19, and the Texas A&M Aggies on Nov. 26.
If they were to win out, they would likely get a chance to make the conference title game. If they are to win that, a spot in the Playoff could be attainable.
Will it happen? Well, we’ll get a better idea of it after this Saturday. If they lose to Alabama, LSU’s chances of making the College Football Playoff will vanish.
