At some point, theĀ Texas A&M Aggies need to start winning some games under Jimbo Fisher.
Although the Texas A&M Aggies were short-handed due to an internal flu outbreak for the Florida game, they still suffered their fifth conference loss in a row under Jimbo Fisher, falling 41-24 to the Gators at Kyle Field on Saturday afternoon.
Now at 3-6 on the season and 1-5 in SEC play, the Aggies need to win out to achieve bowl eligibility. Given that this team started out the season ranked No. 6 overall in the initial AP Top 25 Poll, this is just absurd! It may cost Texas A&M boosters around $85 million to make Fisher go away, but the fact we are even having a discussion about it says all about the job he has done.
Not all losses are created equal, but the home loss to the Florida Gators was especially damning.
It may be time for Texas A&M to seriously consider moving on from Jimbo Fisher
After winning the Southwest Classic over traditional rival Arkansas at Jerryworld, the Aggies have proceeded to lose to the following SEC teams in order: at Mississippi State, at Alabama, at South Carolina, home vs. Ole Miss and now home vs. Florida. Of those five SEC losses, you could argue that the Gators loss is the worst because they are being led by a new head coach in Billy Napier.
Texas A&M has lost a bunch of games narrowly, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. These narrow defeats are becoming very Scott Frost-like for Fisher, and we all know how that turned out in Lincoln, alright. For a team ranked inside of the top 10 at the start of the year needing to win out to go bowling is simply preposterous, but here we sadly are with A&Mā¦
To be frank, Texas A&M may need to lose out for Fisher to seriously get the ax at the end of the season. He and his staff may be recruiting at a high level, but all those five-stars are going to bail on the operation if they cannot even make it to a holiday season bowl game. With Texas A&M needing to beat LSU at home on Thanksgiving Weekend to finish 6-6, this is just unfathomable.
At some point, grandiose expectations will be overtaken by a bleak reality and a change may come.
