WATCH: Alabama staffer escorted off field by police after LSU fans get in his face
By Scott Rogust
An Alabama Crimson Tide staff member needed a police escort to be helped off the field after LSU fans blocked him from leaving.
The Alabama Crimson Tide’s chances of making the College Football Playoff have taken a massive hit in Week 10. Taking on the LSU Tigers, Alabama forced overtime and managed to take a 31-24 lead. The issue was, the Tigers immediately scored a 25-yard touchdown on a run by quarterback Jayden Daniels, and converted a two-point conversion to take the 32-31 win.
Once the two-point conversion was successful, LSU fans stormed the field at Tiger Stadium. As Alabama exited the field, one staffer had difficulty doing so, because one fan was blocking him and getting in his face.
The video below comes from AL.com’s Michael Casagrande.
Alabama staffer blocked by LSU fans after Week 10 game
The staffer is Evan Van Nostrand, per Casagrande. Van Nostrand is Alabama’s assistant director of player development, character and career development.
Officers on the field were able to create a path to the locker room, as the one fan still tried to get in Van Nostrand’s face.
As for the game, the Crimson Tide were in a competitive back-and-forth game against the Tigers. The team took a 21-17 in the fourth quarter on an incredible play by quarterback Bryce Young, who escaped a tight pocket and threw a 41-yard touchdown to Ja’Corey Brooks.
Daniels responded with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, connecting with Mason Taylor for a seven-yard touchdown to take the 24-21 lead. Yet, Alabama was able to get into field goal range, which Will Reichard was successful on his 46-yard attempt to force overtime. Unfortunately for the Crimson Tide, it did not end with a victory.
Alabama now awaits their fate to see where they fall on the College Football Playoff rankings after suffering their second loss of the season.
