CFB media reacts to Georgia taking No. 1, TCU cracks Top 4 in College Football Playoff rankings
Georgia thrashing Tennessee helped propel the Dawgs to No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings but the rest of the Top 25 had media members buzzing.
In the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, it was the Tennessee Volunteers that came in at the No. 1 spot ahead of their matchup with the rival Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, the team that came in at No. 3 after earning the top spot in the previous AP Top 25. However, that all changed after Saturday.
Kirby Smart’s Dawgs were more than up to the task as they delivered a dominant performance that was worthy of vaulting Georgia up to the No. 1 spot. However, Alabama (No. 6) losing to LSU (No. 10), Clemson (No. 4) getting boat-raced by Notre Dame, and TCU (No. 7) remaining undefeated raised a ton of questions about the Top 4 and beyond in the CFP rankings.
But on Tuesday night, the committee finished their deliberations and delivered the latest Top 25. And there was plenty of conversation to be had with some of the choices that were made for the CFP rankings.
College Football Playoff Rankings: Top 25 in Week 11
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Michigan Wolverines
- TCU Horned Frogs
- Tennessee Volunteers
- Oregon Ducks
- LSU Tigers
- USC Trojans
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Clemson Tigers
- Ole Miss Rebels
- UCLA Bruins
- Utah Utes
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- North Carolina Tar Heels
- NC State Wolfpack
- Tulane Green Wave
- Texas Longhorns
- Kansas State Wildcats
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Illinois Fighting Illini
- UCF Knights
- Florida State Seminoles
- Kentucky Wildcats
- Washington Huskies
Alabama only fell to No. 9 and Clemson only fell to No. 10, which is honestly a bit shocking considering that both of these teams have reasons to be outside of the Top 10 with the way the Tigers got blown out and now that the Crimson Tide have two losses.
Tennessee fans are sure to be upset that they dropped all the way out of the Top 4 from the top spot despite losing to the team that’s now at No. 1. But the way the Vols lost probably didn’t do them any favors.
College football media reactions to Week 11 2022 CFP rankings
With these wildly shaken-up rankings, the college football media had plenty on their minds.
Naturally, there was a great deal of excitement about TCU cracking the Top 4 as an undefeated team (finally), but there were also still plenty of valid questions about the rankings being posed.
All in all, though, there is a still a month left of the season to play out, including the ever-important conference championship games. So while this is all great fodder for us to argue about like any good college football fan would, all that matters is what the Top 4 (and Top 25) looks like when the year’s over.
