What teams can still make the College Football Playoff entering Week 12?
By John Buhler
As weird as it sounds, Clemson’s pathway into the playoff is the least formidable
Just when everybody thought they were out of it, Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers are still very much in play to make the College Football Playoff. Just like UNC who they will play for an ACC Championship in Charlotte, the Tigers are 9-1 on the year and have not lost a conference game. All that stands in their way from achieving perfection are Miami, South Carolina and North Carolina…
Given how underwhelming the Hurricanes have been under Mario Cristobal, it is hard to see the Tigers falling at home to them. As for the South Carolina game, Shane Beamer will have his team ready to play, hoping to spoil Clemson’s solid playoff chances. Although North Carolina could be a worthy adversary in Charlotte, Clemson is a sizable favorite to win the ACC in a neutral-site affair.
Clemson has no margin for error, but their last three games are the easiest among the contenders.
The only thing stopping Georgia at this point is Georgia playing with its food
A lot has changed in two weeks. Georgia went from the No. 3 team in the land to the undisputed No. 1. The Dawgs beat Tennessee badly at home in their game of the century and then followed it up with a convincing win over the other SEC Bulldogs in Mississippi State over in Starkville. All that stands in the way of Georgia being a No. 1 seed in the playoff are Kentucky, Georgia Tech and LSU.
Since Georgia is the defending national champion, the Dawgs will receive everyone’s best effort. However, Kentucky just lost at home to Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech already fired its former head coach and LSU has two losses on the season. Frankly, Georgia can lose in Lexington or to the Ramblin’ Wreck in Athens and still make it in with a win over LSU. 12 wins and they are getting in!
Along with The Game’s winner, Georgia is the only other team who can get in with a title bout loss.
