Michigan gets great injury news with Ohio State clash looming
By John Buhler
It looks like Michigan will have running back Blake Corum available for the Ohio State game.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Blake Corum will be healthy enough to play in The Game vs. Ohio State next weekend in The Horseshoe.
With the Wolverines surviving a home scare vs. Illinois, they have improved to 11-0 on the year and 8-0 in Big Ten play. However, it all comes down to The Game vs. their biggest rival at their place next weekend. A big reason why Illinois nearly pulled off the monumental upset was Corum being removed from the game due to his injury. Fortunately, it seems to have been precautionary.
As long as Corum is able to play in some capacity next Saturday, Michigan should have a chance.
Blake Corum injury update: Jim Harbaugh provides great news on Michigan star
Since Harbaugh said Corum’s knee is structurally sound, nothing is going to keep the Michigan Heisman Trophy hopeful out of the Wolverines’ biggest game of the year. Regardless of how the Buckeyes fare vs. Maryland in College Park on Saturday evening, The Game between Michigan and Ohio State will decide the Big Ten East. The winner of The Game certainly makes it into the playoff.
Even though The Game is in Columbus, one can argue for the Wolverines being able to pull off the road upset, so long as Corum can play in some meaningful capacity. Of course, J.J. McCarthy cannot shrink under the pressure of such a big moment. However, Ohio State has not exactly proven to everyone the Buckeyes are world beaters. They are also pretty banged up at this point of the year.
Ultimately, Corum’s health will be a factor on if Michigan can win back-to-back Big Ten East divisional crowns. While the Big Ten West has yet to be decided, we know for a fact that whoever wins in Columbus next Saturday will represent the East. To date, no Big Ten West winner has ever beaten the Big Ten East winner since the conference went into this particularly divisional format.
For now, Corum must be put in bubble wrap to ensure that he is as close to full strength possible.
