Michigan student radio call of game-winning FG is pure emotion for Wolverines (Video)
By Scott Rogust
The Michigan Wolverines narrowly escaped an upset loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini on a game-winning field goal by Jake Moody.
The Week 12 slate of college football games was far from the most enticing on paper, but was there ever some drama early on. Not only were the No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs on upset alert, but also the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines.
Michigan actually trailed the Illinois Fighting Illini late in the game on Saturday afternoon, but much like with any undefeated team, you can never count them out in crunch time. With a little over two minutes remaining, the Wolverines marched down into field goal range, which included a controversial five-yard catch by wide receiver Cornelius Johnson.
Jake Moody walked onto the field at Michigan Stadium and nailed a perfect 35-yard field goal to lead the Wolverines to an eventual 19-17 win.

The Wolverines were on red alert in this game, as star running back and Heisman candidate Blake Corum left the game late in the first half with an apparent knee injury. He did return to the sideline for the second half but took just one carry.
Michigan trailed late in the third quarter after two touchdown runs by Illinois’ Chase Brown. While they were unable to get in the end zone, Moody took over for the Wolverines, hitting three field goals in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner.
Illinois couldn’t do much with the little time they had remaining in regulation. Quarterback Tommy DeVito completed a 14-yard pass to Brown, and then threw a deep pass that fell incomplete to end the game.
Michigan almost recorded their first loss of the season, but Moody helped propel them to an 11-0 record entering their regular-season finale against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
