While Sanders has done a remarkable job at the HBCU level, considerable Power Five opportunities have largely evaded him. The good news for Coach Prime is he may end up with one of them after all, as he has reportedly been offered the job at Colorado. He has also received interest in the Group of Five vacancy over at South Florida. Arizona State could be a fit as well…

Although Colorado is one of the worst jobs in the nation, the Buffs did win a national title in 1990.

Boulder is a beautiful place, but it takes the right kind of head coach to win big at Colorado.

If Sanders were to take over the Buffaloes football team, he would provide some much-needed juice to one of the longest-suffering Power Five programs in the country.

With Matt Rhule taking over at Nebraska and Hugh Freeze expected to at Auburn, that only leaves four Power Five vacancies heading into Rivalry Week. Arizona State has not tipped its hand. Georgia Tech may retain interim head coach Brent Key. Wisconsin could look to do the same with its interim Jim Leonhard. As for Colorado, they are big game hunting by being in pursuit of Sanders.

Another interesting name for CU to consider is former Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin. He won a ton of games at Group of Five power Boise State. Everybody knows that Harsin is a good coach, but the fit could not have been worse for him at Auburn. He will land on his feet, but it seems as though Sanders holds all the cards out west with the two vacancies that are open in the Pac-12.

Ultimately, Sanders will get to pick and choose when he decides to leave Jackson State. Although he may not get to take over a place like Auburn or his alma mater Florida State immediately after leaving Jackson State, he has earned the opportunity to coach a program of note at the lower Power Five level, or one with massive upward trajectory in the Group of Five like at South Florida.

For now, we must appreciate Colorado making a statement by getting into the Coach Prime mix.
