Ohio State fans on message boards wanted to replace Ryan Day with Urban Meyer after the Buckeyes lost to the Michigan Wolverines for the second year in a row.

For the Ohio State Buckeyes, beating the Michigan Wolverines has been an annual tradition since 2012. That all changed last year when they were beaten by Michigan 42-27. In 2022, both squads were ranked in the Top Four with 11-0 records. Both teams’ College Football Playoff chances all hindered on the end result.

On Saturday, the Buckeyes were held to just three points in the second half, while the Wolverines cruised to a 45-23 victory. With this, Michigan is heading to the Big Ten Championship Game for the second year in a row by way of beating Ohio State.

Buckeyes fans on message boards voiced their displeasure in head coach Ryan Day, and called for him to be replaced by, you guessed it, Urban Meyer.

Ohio State fans want Ryan Day replaced by Urban Meyer

Day replaced Meyer after he stepped down following the 2018 season. Now, some Ohio State fans want Meyer to come back and replace Day. Talk about full circle.

While Ohio State fans are far from happy after losing to Michigan two years in a row, Day did help lead the team to an 11-0 record. The Buckeyes’ first win of the season came against a ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish team that the College Football Playoff selection committee valued highly. They picked up big wins against Michigan State and Penn State. Also, it must be pointed out that they did admittedly have a bad showing against Northwestern.

Day is 45-5 in his tenure as Ohio State head coach. Two of those losses are against Michigan, which fans are going to hold against him, especially since both let the Wolverines compete in the Big Ten Championship Game. Now, Ohio State must wait and see if they have a shot at making the Playoff.

As is the case when any head coach of a big program loses, Meyer’s name will immediately be uttered by frustrated fans.
