Karl-Anthony Towns injury update: Wolves star leaves game with non-contact injury
By Scott Rogust
Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns had to be helped to the locker room after suffering a non-contact, right leg injury.
The Minnesota Timberwolves entered Monday night on a two-game losing streak, looking to bring it to an end with a win over the Washington Wizards. Not just that, but to get over .500, as they were 10-10 entering the game. That never came to fruition, as Minnesota lost 142-127. During the game, however, they received an injury scare from their big star, Karl-Anthony Towns.
In the third quarter, Towns tried running up the court to play defense, but clutched the back of his right leg. After laying on the court, Towns needed to be helped to the locker room by members of the training staff and teammate Rudy Gobert.
Towns was ruled out shortly afterwards by the team with what they diagnosed as a right calf strain.

ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that there’s optimism from the team that Towns may have avoided a significant injury to his lower leg. Towns is scheduled to go for an MRI on Tuesday, per Wojnarowski.
Towns exited Monday’s game against the Wizards after scoring eight points while shooting two-for-six from the field, while recording four assists and two rebounds in 22 minute of playing time.
On the season, Towns averaged 21.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 50.8-percent from the field through 20 games.
The Timberwolves will be crossing their fingers that the MRI reveals that the injury to Towns isn’t major.
Minnesota’s next game will be on Wednesday night, as they face the Memphis Grizzlies.
