The TCU Horned Frogs have enjoyed a successful 2022 season. They were 12-0 on the year entering the Big 12 Championship Game, and on a path towards a College Football Playoff berth. Said berth would have been secured with a win.
That didn’t happen.
Despite overcoming a 28-17 lead to force overtime behind a heroic performance by quarterback Max Duggan, the Horned Frogs fell to the Kansas State Wildcats 31-28 on a game-winning field goal by Tyler Zentner.
To the victor, go the spoils. As for Kansas State football’s social media team, they decided to pour salt in the wound of the Horned Frogs, by using the Hypnotoad against them!

For those unaware, Hypnotoad is a character from the Matt Groening cartoon Futurama. FanSided’s own John Buhler provided the perfect description for the Hypnotoad:
"The Hypnotoad is a recurring bit character in the Matt Groening cartoon Futurama. It is a toad with multicolored, oscillating eyes that has the power of mind control. It emits this humming noise when its eyes are doing their thing. People, animals, mutants and aliens are all powerless to the mighty overlord that is the Hypnotoad. As for the TCU Horned Frogs, it is perfect. Obey Hypnotoad!"
The character has been embraced by TCU. From head coach Sonny Dykes wearing a Hypnotoad hoodie to practice, to the video boards at Amon G. Carter Stadium showing the Hypnotoad and trippy video clips during games. The Hypnotoad is a beloved mascot.
Now, with this loss, the Wildcats decided to use their meme format of the Hypnotoad against them. They did, after all, hand the Horned Frogs their first loss of the season and created some drama ahead of the College Football Playoff selection show on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. ET.
