Chicago Cubs fans might not have to ask themselves the question, “which one?” in regards to the star shortstop their team should pursue.

Whether it’s Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa, or Dansby Swanson, the Chicago Cubs have been connected to all three whether by speculation or legitimate rumors spilled from reporters.

So far, we know that Xander Bogaerts is the top target for the Cubs as they look to make moves to get their team back to contending status next year, but new reports suggest fans may not have to debate ‘this or that’ regarding which star shortstop the team should pursue: There’s a world in which they could acquire more than one.

Mark Feinsand reported as much on Monday evening:

Apparently, the two players they’re considering this move with are Xander Bogaerts and Dansby Swanson, but one could see it working with Carlos Correa instead of Swanson if the latter returns to Atlanta.

Cubs would have to shuffle some pieces to add two star shortstops

Of course, the Cubs can’t play two players at shortstop concurrently, so they would need buy-in from at least one of the players with a position switch.

Feinsand suggested that the big-time move would shift Xander Bogaerts over to third base. Bogaerts has been a full-time SS throughout his career but has started 50 games at third base. Swanson and Correa have never played at the position, so if anyone moves, it makes sense for it to be Bogaerts.

The shortstop position has been the primary position focus of free agency and the Winter Meetings since it’s top-loaded with talent. With Trea Turner signing with the Phillies, the fate of the remaining three star free agents is top of mind for baseball fans.

If the Cubs could get two of them, that would be a significant game-changer.
