The Houston Astros, the reigning World Series champions, made their splash last week by signing Jose Abreu to bolster their lineup. It remains to be seen just how active they’ll be moving forward.

MLB news and MLB updates

Aaron Judge rumors and updates

Aaron Judge, per most reports, is choosing between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants. While the Yankees have the advantage of a familiar professional setting for Judge, the Giants were Judge’s childhood team, as he grew up in the Bay Area. San Francisco also has plenty of financial flexibility to match whatever offer the Yankees make, and then some. Ultimately, it will be up to Judge to decide what he prioritizes — immediate World Series hopes or money.

Judge is expected to arrive in San Diego on Tuesday, which could shape the Winter Meetings as a whole.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Tuesday (briefly) that Judge was headed to the Giants, but quickly deleted the tweet as neither San Francisco nor the Yankees had heard word about Judge’s intentions.

Trea Turner rumors and updates

Multiple teams were in on Trea Turner, with the Los Angeles Dodgers seemingly taking a backseat for now. Turner had met multiple times with his former rival, the San Diego Padres. A.J. Preller is said to have genuine interest in Turner, despite the fact they’d have to move around multiple members of their infield. The Phillies were long the favorites for Turner, whose wife is from the area, and made the contract official on Monday afternoon.

Turner reportedly turned down more money from the Padres to sign in Philly.

Carlos Correa rumors and updates

Carlos Correa has been connected to several teams, but seems set on leaving the Twins for now until they make a competitive offer. The Cubs, Phillies, Dodgers and more have been in on Correa, at the very least. All four star shortstops available are waiting on one another to set the market. For now, we must be patient.

Correa will meet with the Twins, as well, for good measure. The Phillies are out given they signed Trea Turner.

Xander Bogaerts rumors and updates

The Boston Red Sox last offer to Xander Bogaerts wasn’t close to good enough, and his representatives seemed downright insulted, to say the least. Bogaerts has long been rumored to the Phillies, who are certainly in the market for a shortstop. However, Turner is the top of this group, so Philadelphia’s interest is complicated.

Bogaerts is stuck between a rock and a hard place as he watches the market develop.

Dansby Swanson rumors and updates

The Braves remain favored for Dansby Swanson, with the Cubs lingering just behind in case Atlanta fails to meet his market value. Vaughn Grissom, just 21 years old, has been groomed as Swanson’s replacement. However, the Braves must ask themselves if they want to lose two critical pieces from their World Series team — Freddie Freeman and now Swanson — in back-to-back offseasons. Swanson has also met with the Phillies.

The Cardinals are also said to have some interest in Swanson.

Jacob deGrom rumors and updates

The Texas Rangers signed Jacob deGrom to a five-year, $185 million deal just days prior to the MLB Winter Meetings. It was a price tag the New York Mets were never going to match, thus forcing their hand. In response, the Mets have signed Justin Verlander, a three-time Cy Young award winner.

Justin Verlander rumors and updates

The New York Mets signed Justin Verlander to a two-year deal with a third year vested option. Verlander was a proponent of the third year, which reportedly set the Mets apart from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were also a rumored suitor at one point.
