What the Navy football uniforms for the 2022 Army-Navy Game are going to look like are no exception to that in the slightest.

Going with a NASA theme, there are a ton of details and hidden meanings throughout the uniforms to help honor the 54 Naval Academy graduates who have gone on to become astronauts. And if you’re wondering what those details are, we have you covered with a breakdown of the Navy football uniforms.

Navy football uniforms explained for 2022 Army-Navy Game

We got our first look at the Navy football uniforms for this game in a reveal video that helps to shed some light on some meaning behind the new digs they are breaking out in Philadelphia, specifically playing into the entire NASA theme.

It’s a bold choice for the Midshipmen to lean this far into the NASA aspect of the uniforms but the branch’s ties to the space program are undeniable and seen in the jersey.

Not only is there a NASA logo with a beautiful hand-painted picture of the moon on one side of the helmets along with more space imagery, there is also a picture of Bruce McCandless taking the first untethered spacewalk — an important moment as he was a graduate of the Naval Academy — way back in the age of exploration in 1984.

Meanwhile, the red stripes on the uniforms are also significant as they are intended to be an homage to the suits NASA astronauts wear on spacewalks. And the white cleats take a page out of that look as well as they are supposed to be imitations of moon boots.

All told, these special uniforms are absolutely gorgeous and Navy 100 percent nailed their intentions with these threads.
