College football: How many bowl games are there?

College football bowl season has arrived, and we could not be any more excited about it!

Brace yourselves, college football fans! Bowl season is upon us, and the wait is no more!

Beginning on Friday, Dec. 16 and through the College Football Playoff’s conclusion, we are getting incredibly exciting neutral-site matchups we rarely ever see. From No. 4 Ohio State vs. No. 1 Georgia in the Peach Bowl, to Miami (OH) taking on UAB in the Bahamas, what more could you possibly ask for? Although the NFL will be playing games too, you can get your bowl game fix in.

With more bowl games that you could possibly ever know what to do with, how many are there?

College football: How many bowl games are being played in 2022-23?

For the next month, there will be a grand total of 42 bowl games to be played out. This number includes the three College Football Playoff games between the national semifinals and the national championship. If you do the math, this means 82 programs in the FBS are going bowling this year. While bowl games mean different things to different programs, it is still a big deal, guys!

Not only this is an opportunity to celebrate a great season with team’s fanbase, but it is an opportunity for all the players and coaches on these staffs to get better. Yes, there is national exposure on television to some degree, but this is all about taking part in the absolutely crucial bowl game practices. You are either getting better or you are not. It is really that simple, folks!

Ultimately, this is a period of great transition across the sport, leaving one year and heading into the next. Although the coaching carousel as slowed down to a crawl at this point, many of these bowl game staffs will be of the patchwork variety. People come and people go, but bowl season remains. For those who like to wager a few dollars or so, you can make a killing in bowl season.
