Mark Stoops is at it again on the recruiting trail. The Kentucky Wildcats need a replacement for QB Will Levis, who will be one of the top QBs taken in the NFL Draft. They have one in Devin Leary.

Devin Leary, formerly of NC State, will head to the Bluegrass State with a chance to take over for Will Levis, who recently declared for the NFL Draft.

Levis is expected to be on the top quarterbacks taken, so the Wildcats as a program has proven they can produce top-level QB prospects. This is what Leary is seeking at Kentucky — an offensive coaching staff which can help take his skillset to the next level.

“He’s one of the more efficient passers in the country, doesn’t turn the ball over and his arm is on another level,” said 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong. “Certainly, you hope he’s heal and able to get back to the point he was at in that 2021 season at NC State where he was a Johnny Unitas finalist.”

What will Devin Leary bring to Kentucky Wildcats football?

Leary passed for 1,265 yards and 11 touchdowns before he suffered a season-ending injury against Florida State in early October. At 6-1, Leary is shorter than most pro-style quarterbacks, but he’s faired quite well while throwing for over 6,800 yards. That’s good for fourth in NC State program history.

Stoops and Co. didn’t quite live up to the hype this season. Kentucky entered the year with one of their best QB prospects in quite some time, and finished 7-5, including 3-5 in conference. Kentucky will have a different offensive coordinator in 2022, as Liam Coen, who spent last year with the LA Rams, will return to Lexington.

The transition from the ACC to SEC will not be easy, but with the right help around him, it’s certainly possible for Leary.
