Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seemingly gave a definitive answer in regard to the teamās odds of signing free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Ever since after Thanksgiving, all eyes were on free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He made visits with three teams about potentially signing a contract with them for the remainder of the season. One of those teams was the Dallas Cowboys, who were openly recruiting him, even during their own games. But, after meeting with the Super Bowl champion wide receiver, no deal has been struck.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has had some fun with the Beckham saga, going from negative about the teamās chances of signing him, to making it seem as though heāll be finalizing a deal. But Cowboys fans who wanted Beckham for the playoff run will not like Jonesā latest comments.
After Dallasā 40-34 win over the rival Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve, Jones was asked for his latest update on the Beckham saga. Jones said that itās ānot realistic to think about having him in a meaningful way for the playoffs.ā But, Jones didnāt rule out signing Beckham in the future.
Jerry Jones gives pessimistic update on Odell Beckham contract talks
Over a week ago, Jones notably told USA Today that āOdellās going to join us,ā giving Cowboys fans hope that a deal was going to be finalized.
Then, earlier this week, Jones sounded more pessimistic about adding Beckham, saying āwe donāt have anything,ā and that each day that passed decreased the odds of him contributing in the playoffs.
Now, Jones doesnāt sound very confident that Beckham will join the Cowboys at all for the remainder of the season.
The Cowboys did make a move at wide receiver, signing former Indianapolis Colts star T.Y. Hilton to a one-year contract. Hilton made an impact in his debut game with the Cowboys in Week 16, making a huge 52-yard reception on a third-and-30 situation at the expense of the Eagles.
Dallasā wide receivers had a big day against Philadelphiaās secondary. Hilton had his huge reception on his lone target. CeeDee Lamb caught 10-of-11 targets for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Gallup recorded four receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.
This was definitely a game that should inspire confidence in Dallasā receiving corps for the final stretch of the season.
As for Beckham, it doesnāt sound like he will be joining the Cowboys, based on Jonesā comments. Of course, anything can change.
