The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and head coach Marcus Freeman landed one of the best quarterbacks in the transfer portal.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are getting set to play in the Gator Bowl on Friday, Dec. 30, against the South Carolina Gamecocks. They managed to finish the regular-season with an 8-4 record after starting the year 0-2, albeit after losing starting quarterback Tyler Buchner for the season due to throwing shoulder injury.
Now, just days ahead of their bowl game, reports indicate they are expected to land one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal.
According to ESPNās Pete Thamel on Tuesday, Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman is entering the transfer portal, and he is expected to land at Notre Dame.
Notre Dame reportedly expected to land Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman from transfer portal
Hartman has had a prolific career playing for the Demon Deacons football program. He has the propensity to put up ridiculous passing yards and passing touchdown totals on a weekly basis. Many credit head coach Dave Clawsonās offensive system, but Hartman is the one making the throws to his receivers, and putting up points.
One of his best performances this season was when Wake Forest faced the Clemson Tigers, where he completed 20-of-29 pass attempts for 337 yards and six touchdowns in the 51-45 double overtime loss.
Hartman recently played in the Gasparilla Bowl, where he helped lead Wake Forest to a 27-17 victory over the Missouri Tigers after throwing for 280 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception (23-of-36 on pass attempts).
Overall, Hartman completed 63.1-percent of his passes for 3,701 yards, 38 touchdowns (third-most in nation) and 12 interceptions.
After setting the record for most passing yards (12,697) and passing touchdowns (110) in Wake Forest history, Hartman is leaving for the transfer portal. From the sound of it, Hartman looks to be heading to South Bend to play for Notre Dame.
