A Columbus bar pulled off arguably the worst reading of the room all time, as it dropped New Year’s balloons moments after the hometown Ohio State Buckeyes lost the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to the Georgia Bulldogs.
Reading the room is apparently not a degree you can obtain at THE Ohio State University.
In the immediate aftermath of the Ohio State Buckeyes falling to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in absolutely heart-breaking fashion, a Columbus bar dropped the
ball
balloons to celebrate ringing in the new year. While it is tradition to celebrate the calendar flipping over, Ohio State’s season had just ended only moments before. Could this be any more awkward?
This was arguably the most crushing defeat in the history of the Buckeyes football program.

While many people do not care about sports, this happened inside of a bar in Columbus, Ohio…

You better believe absolutely disgusted patrons were popping those balloons most angrily.

The last time someone failed to read the room inside of a Columbus bar this badly, Urban Meyer pointed the finger at a co-ed inside of his chop house.
Columbus bar dropped the ball to celebrate a new year after an Ohio State defeat
Meyer may have abruptly retired from coaching the Buckeyes only to make a bang with the NFL‘s Jacksonville Jaguars in between Big Noon Kickoff desk stints. Leaving his former team behind in Cincinnati on a short week only foreshadowed the lack of situational awareness that has become far too common in the Ohio state capital. This was the biggest downside of the New Year’s Six…
While New Year’s is when bowl season winds down, or really gets going, holding national semifinals on New Year’s Eve is a terrible way to ring in the new year for the losing team. It was a bad, bad, bad Saturday night over in Big Ten Country, that’s for sure. Ohio State’s biggest rival Michigan also saw its season come to an end, as the Wolverines lost in the Fiesta Bowl to TCU.
Ultimately, you can never put a price on celebratory balloons. Once they are inflated, it is like putting a bullet in the chamber. It is only a matter of time before it goes off. Although it would have been pure euphoria had Noah Ruggles’ nailed the 50-yard game-winning attempt, the Buckeyes’ sure-footed kicker shanked that one as badly as did this Columbus bar with zero self-awareness.
While it was a night to remember in Athens, it was a night to forget in Columbus for absolute sure.
