Darnell Mooney and Matt Forte had priceless reactions to Tulane’s massive upset over USC in the Cotton Bowl.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. The Green Wave were down 45-30 late in the fourth quarter. Behind the stellar play of future NFL running back Tyjae Spears and his four touchdowns, the Green Wave were able to rally. Tulane scored late to make it 45-37 before recording a safety on the next USC possession and getting the ball back with time left for a potential game-winning drive.

A non-targeting call on a clear shot left Tulane fans outraged on the ensuing drive but gave the Green Wave a golden opportunity to take the lead. Two plays later, Tulane scored on a touchdown pass from quarterback Michael Pratt to Alex Bauman that was quickly ruled incomplete upon first glance before a review reversed the call. USC’s last-second desperation plays would fall short, preserving the upset for the Green Wave and their faithful who made the travel to Arlington.

Sixteen points in the final four minutes. That was the difference between a Cinderella story ending with a shattered glass slipper and the completion of a magical turnaround from 2-10 to 12-2 and the champions of the Cotton Bowl. Alums are happy, and the Green Wave return to New Orleans with new hardware signifying their impressive accomplishment.
