Important Michigan football asset won’t be declaring for NFL Draft
By John Buhler
Michigan football fans should rejoice over guard Trevor Keegan returning to school in 2023.
Michigan’s chances at three-peating in the Big Ten just got even strong with all-conference guard Trevor Keegan returning to Ann Arbor for one last ride.
Keegan has been a prominent part of the back-to-back Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line of the Wolverines. Though he could have been drafted by any number of teams this spring, there is clearly some unfinished business to be had in Ann Arbor. Michigan has won the Big Ten in back-to-back seasons, but has failed to win a College Football Playoff game under Jim Harbaugh’s watch.
Here is the message Keegan sent out on Instagram on Thursday evening about deciding to stay.
Trevor Keegan is latest Michigan football star to return to the Wolverines in 2023
With star running back Blake Corum deciding to come back for one last ride, one should feel pretty good about Michigan’s chances of three-peating in the Big Ten next season, as well as contending for a national title. Although Georgia looms large over in SEC country, the Dawgs will lose a ton of talent to the NFL Draft. Then again, that did not stop them from repeating anyway…
What this really comes down to is Michigan has the core necessary to potentially get over the top. The Wolverines’ strength next year will once again be on offense. Not only are Corum and Keegan returning, but so are Donovan Edwards and J.J. McCarthy. This group has already played in a ton of big games together. Even if Jim Harbaugh’s return is uncertain, the Wolverines should dominate.
Ultimately, you cannot blame players like Keegan for wanting to delay entering the NFL Draft because they have a fantastic team to go back to. The money is better professionally, but when else will he have an opportunity to play with his best friends one more time? Regardless, Michigan should be one of the best teams in college football next year. Are the stars are aligning for the Wolverines?
There is a growing belief that Michigan may have what it takes to get the thing done next season.
