Who will replace C.J. Stroud at Ohio State? Here’s 3 options
By Scott Rogust
Devin Brown, Ohio State
The Buckeyes successfully recruited Devin Brown as part of their 2022 class, where he was a four-star recruit and the sixth-ranked quarterback in the entire country, per 247Sports. Brown also received offers from Ole Miss, Texas, USC and more.
Obviously, with Stroud playing at a high level and being behind McCord on the depth chart, Brown didn’t receive much playing time this past season. He appeared in just two games, where he had just one carry for one yard.
Brown will be completing with McCord for the starting job for the 2023 season. Who knows, maybe he impresses enough throughout the offseason to win the QB1 position on the depth chart.
Ohio State C.J. Stroud replacements: Spencer Sanders
If Ohio State wants to look at the transfer portal, there is still an interesting name remaining in Spencer Sanders.
Back in December, Sanders declared he was transferring out of Oklahoma State and entering the portal after four years as quarterback for the Cowboys. In that span of time, Sanders threw for 9,553 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions while completing 61.0-percent of his passes. Sanders is a threat in the running game as well, as he ran for 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns on 493 carries.
Sanders was named the Big-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2019 and made the All Big-12 First team in 2021.
If head coach Ryan Day wants to look at outside options, Sanders is still in the portal as of this writing.
