AD Mitchell entering transfer portal: Most likely destination for former Georgia WR
Former Georgia receiver AD Mitchell has entered the transfer portal but there’s really only one destination that makes sense given the rumors circulating.
The questions about the Georgia Bulldogs offense from the middle of the regular season look comically outdated now, but one of the significant concerns for the team that went on to drop a 60-burger on TCU in a National Championship Game rout was the health of sophomore wide receiver AD Mitchell.
An absolute speedster on the outside, Mitchell provided a big-play threat for the offense but was out of action for much of the year. We still saw his proclivity for ripping off huge chunks of yardage and making high-impact plays in the College Football Playoff upon his return, though, as he reeled in a touchdown in both the semifinal and National Championship Game matchups.
But now there will be no more of that for Kirby Smart’s team. Ahead of the early deadline to enter the transfer portal and amid rampant rumors, Mitchell put his name in the portal.
The question now becomes where Mitchell is headed. Luckily, there seems to be a clear answer.
AD Mitchell transfer rumors: Former Georgia WR likely bound for Texas
If Arch Manning can ever locate his student ID and hang onto it, then he and Quinn Ewers will have a big-time weapon available to them if the current rumors are to be believed. Max Olson of The Athletic referenced the rumors that Mitchell was heading to the Texas Longhorns that were swirling before the reports that the wideout was headed to the portal.
Mitchell had only 38 career catches at Georgia but seven of those went for touchdowns. He’s extremely fast and a nightmare matchup in man coverage, which should fit ideally into the Steve Sarkisian offense with either Ewers or Manning.
We’ll have to see if the Mitchell-to-Texas rumors come to fruition. But for now, that seems to be the most likely outcome for this situation.
