CeeDee Lamb’s treatment of Brett Maher proves Cowboys shouldn’t be switching kickers
By Scott Rogust
Video footage showed Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb comforting Brett Maher after his rough game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Dallas Cowboys won their first road playoff game in 30 years after they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-14. Their lead was large enough that Brett Maher’s bad game was essentially a non-factor. Maher missed his four-of-five extra point attempts in the game, which prompted the question of will the Cowboys find a new kicker for their Divisional Round game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Cowboys have stood behind Maher after his bad game.
In sideline footage from the Wild Card game released by the Cowboys, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was spotted comforting Maher after one of his misses, saying “you’re good” and “we’re with you.”

Lamb expressed his belief to Maher during the sideline exchange, telling the kicker that he’s bailed the team out a lot.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, who was spotted saying “go for f***ing two” on the sidelines, said after the game that he supports Maher, saying “I’m Money Maher’s biggest fan.” Additionally, Prescott pointed out that he himself “played like s*** a week ago,” and “that happens.”

Head coach Mike McCarthy said that they will be “forging ahead” with Maher as their placekicker. Owner Jerry Jones said that they had no desire to add a kicker ahead of the 49ers game.
But, the Cowboys signed former 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, and Los Angeles Chargers kicker Tristan Vizcaino to their practice squad.
During team practice on Thursday, reporters in attendance noted that Maher made all six of his attempts with the media present. Meanwhile, Vizcaino made three of five, missing his first and fourth attempts. NFL Network’s Jane Slater noted in a tweet that the wind was around 20 miles per hour.
The Cowboys are facing a tough test, as they face off against a 49ers defense that allowed the fewest yards of total offense (300.6) and points (16.3) per game. The score may very well be decided on extra point and field goal attempts.
As was evidenced during and after the game, the Cowboys still have Maher’s back.
