10 best college football quarterbacks returning for 2023 season
By John Buhler
Caleb Williams will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but to whom?
There was no other option. USC’s Caleb Williams is by far and away the best returning quarterback in college football. In his first year with the Trojans, he largely carried a rebuilding team to the Pac-12 Championship Game. Although he had major issues with the Utah Utes throughout the season, as well as the Tulane Green Wave in DFW, Williams’ raw talent was on full display the entire time.
Had he been draft-eligible, Williams would be the first quarterback taken. Heck, the Chicago Bears would have had to think long and hard about drafting him with their top overall selection rather than building a team around Justin Fields. Karmically, that would have been so rough for the Monsters of the Midway. However, William has Patrick Mahomes’ talent playing at a major power.
Ultimately, the only things that can derail him from what is rightfully his are injuries and himself. As long as he keeps his head on his shoulders and a clean bill of health, horrific NFL franchises will “Crater for Caleb” shortly before Christmas. While Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud are both excellent quarterback prospects, Williams’ size, speed and arm talent really encapsulates the best of both.
If your favorite NFL team needs a quarterback after next year, Williams should top your wishlist.
