Patrick Mahomes got trolled epically with Rihanna fake-out

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes thought he received praise from music star Rihanna, only to find out that it was a fake-out. 

The Kansas City Chiefs are in Arizona preparing for Super Bowl 57, where they take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days not just in sports, but also in entertainment. As has been tradition, there will be halftime performance. For Super Bowl 57, it is none other than singer Rihanna.

While meeting with the media on Wednesday, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was informed by former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall that Rihanna believed that he was the greatest quarterback ever. Mahomes was taken aback by the comments.

“It makes you feel great,” said Mahomes. “She’s going to crush it at halftime. I have family members that I think are more excited about the halftime show than they are the game. Whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel, so I’m glad she went with me for that honor.”

And then, Marshall pulled the rug out from under Mahomes, saying that he was just messing with him and Rihanna never said that.

Patrick Mahomes trolled by Rihanna fake-out

Talk about an icebreaker before a serious question. Marshall asked Mahomes right after admitting that he was messing with him, he asked the Chiefs quarterback what he was chasing.

"“I never say I’m chasing a player, I’m chasing that I don’t want to have any regrets when I step off this football field,” said Mahomes. “I understand how lucky I am to be in this organization. I understand how lucky I am to play with guys that are going to be Hall of Famers. So when I look back at the end of my career, I don’t want to look back and be like, ‘Man, I didn’t give everything I had to win Super Bowls because of the great people I have around me.’ When I get done with my career, I just want to make sure that I know I gave everything on that football field.”"

Mahomes is in the Super Bowl for the third time since becoming the Chiefs starting quarterback in 2018. He is looking to hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the second time, but he will have to contend with an Eagles defense that allowed just an average of 301.5 yards of total offense (second in NFL) and 20.2 points per game (seventh).

This season, Mahomes threw for a league-high 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns, while completing 67.1 percent of his passes. He is one of the finalists for the NFL MVP award, alongside Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Super Bowl 57 takes place on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
