Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has ditched his trademark mullet right as Arch Manning arrived in Austin. Is this a Samson and āDelilahā situation?
The Biblical tale of Samson and Delilah boils down to the former having superhuman strength only as long as he never cut his hair, which the latter eventually cut off to weaken him. Now you have to wonder if Arch Manning is trying to pull the same thing with the Texas Longhorns and Quinn Ewers.
Ewers, who transferred to Austin from Ohio State last offseason and started the 2023 season for Texas, rocked his trademark blonde mullet throughout his recruitment and over his first two college seasons. That apparently wonāt be happening for his third.
On Thursday, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy shared a video to his Instagram, h/t Hayes Fawcett of On3, showing the Longhorns quarterback with no mullet to be found.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers cuts mullet, TBD on if it harnessed all his powers
Now we wait. Was the mullet the source of Ewersā talent all along?
With spring practice on the near horizon and Arch Manning now on the field alongside him to, at least assumedly, push for the QB1 job, weāll find out soon enough if Ewers is the goods if he doesnāt have his mullet.
Putting the jest aside, it will be a telling year for the mullet-less Ewers. His arm and raw skill have never been in question, which he put on display as the Texas starter this past season. Consistency, however, was another story. Now with Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson gone, much more will be put on Ewersā plate. Moreover, the expectation has been set that Manning will sit behind Ewers for the 2023 season already.
For all the mullet lovers out there, though, donāt let that Achy Breaky Heart get you down too badly. Ewersā isnāt Samson and the mullet isnāt the source of his powers ā at least we donāt think.
