UFC 284: Who is Blake Bilder?
32-year-old featherweight Blake Bilder competed on Dana White’s Contender Series this past season. Bilder submitted Morgan within three minutes, extending his undefeated record to 7-0 and proving doubters wrong, including Dana White. White doesn’t usually give out contracts to 32-year-olds, but Bilder came in and made White excited to sign one.
Bilder went undefeated as an amateur from 2012 until 2016, going pro in 2018. Bilder worked his way up to a CFFC title fight, winning the vacant featherweight strap and defending it before appearing on DWCS this season. He holds five finishes, four coming by way of submission.
Blake Bilder makes his UFC debut against Shane Young at UFC 284
Bilder will get his first taste of the UFC against Shane Young on Saturday at UFC 284. Getting the action started on the early prelims, Bilder will look to extend his undefeated streak to eight while Young will look to snap a two-fight skid. Young is a product of City Kickboxing, which houses featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, among others. Young’s UFC debut came against teammate Volkanovski and after stringing together a couple of wins, including a Fight of the Night against Rolando Dy, Young has dropped two straight, most recently against Omar Morales at UFC 260.
Bilder will be traveling to Australia for his UFC debut, faced with taking on a vet who will have the crowd on his side, it will be a big test for the so-called “underdog” to prove himself to the doubters.
