Tyson Pedro looks to extend his winning and finishing streak to three at UFC 284.

Tyson Pedro (9-3) had an outstanding 2022 by earning his first win in over three years and added another victory to cap off the year. Pedro looks to start this year with another finish at UFC 284 to extend his winning streak when he welcomes Modestas Bukauskas (13-5) back to the UFC. The light heavyweight bout is slotted to close out the prelims and currently, he is a slight favorite.

The UFC is returning to Australia for the first time since UFC 243, which took place in October 2019. Pedro is from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and this will be his fourth appearance in front of his countrymen as a UFC fighter. He is primarily a kickboxer and has been training at City Kickboxing for this camp.

Pedro at 31 years old maintains a UFC record of five wins and three losses, with his last defeat coming in 2018. All of his wins have come by way of finish (four KOs, five submissions) and have ended in the first round.

Modestas Bukauskas is welcomed back into the UFC as a late replacement

Pedro was originally scheduled to face off against Road to The UFC graduate, Mingyang Zhang (16-6), but Zhang, unfortunately, pulled out last month. Bukauskas is replacing Zhang and will look to prove he belongs in the UFC once again. Bukauskas’ short stint with the organization began in 2020 with a win and then was followed up by three consecutive losses. In his last UFC fight, he suffered a devastating knee injury and was cut shortly afterward.

Bukauskas bounced back last year by winning two bouts at Cage Warriors, one in November and the other in December. The striker fighting out of England tends to look for the finish as well since 11 out of his 13 wins have not heard the judge’s scorecards.
