Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons lost out on the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year award, but heās just using that as extra motivation for next season.
Dallas Cowboysā Micah Parsons might not say he was snubbed, but the DPOY voting results suggest otherwise.
On Thursdayās NFL Honors ceremony, Parsons didnāt receive a single first-place vote for Defensive Player of the Year.
San Francisco 49ers defensive endĀ Nick Bosa won by a landslide with 46 of 50 first-place votes. Philadelphia Eaglesā Haason Reddick received two first-place votes; Kansas City Chiefsā Chris Jones and New York Jetsā Quinnen Williams received one vote apiece.
Thereās little doubt that Bosa deserved this yearās award for his dominant play in 2022, leading the league with 18.5 sacks and earning a first-team All-Pro nod.
Still, shouldnāt Parsons havenāt gotten at least one first-place vote?
Cowboysā Micah Parsons brushes the disrespect off his shoulder
Parsons ranked seventh in the league with 13.5 sacks and finished his season on a quiet note, registering just 1.5 sacks throughout his final six games.
The 23-year-old defender posted similar numbers to his rookie season, when he came in second in DPOY voting behind Pittsburgh Steelersā T.J. Watt. That year, Parsons put together an incredible Year 1 in the league with 13.0 sacks, 30 quarterback hits, and three passes defended, good enough for him to earn five first-place votes in last yearās DPOY voting.
Just because Parsons didnāt receive any first-place votes this year doesnāt necessarily mean he declined in performance, though.
Parsons made more of an impression flirting with R&B singer H.E.R. at the 2022 awards ceremony, but the young Cowboys star already has his sights set on next season.
āYāall gonna see me next year,ā Parsons posted on Twitter shortly after the ceremony.
Somewhere out there, a young and inexperienced 49ers quarterback is trembling in his shoes. Donāt poke the lion.
