Ronald Acuña shoots down absurd Atlanta Braves trade rumors

No, the Atlanta Braves will not trade away Ronald Acuña. They have many good reasons for that, but a rumor circulated for the wrong reasons this weekend.

Ronald Acuña, like most of the Braves core, signed a long term team-friendly contract prior to his arbitration years. Acuña is signed through 2028, at the very least, and could remain on the team even longer than that.

So why, then, were trade rumors circulating regarding the Atlanta outfielder as recently as this past weekend?

A random social media account which — if you can believe it, has been right before this offseason — suggested that Acuña is on the outs with Alex Anthopoulos and Co.

Team insider David O’Brien shot that nonsense down, suggested that this was not the NBA.

Ronald Acuña was made aware of said rumors by a Twitter follower, but the Atlanta outfielder quickly put them to bet.

“My brother, you don’t have anyone to entertain yourself with, so you create a twitter…? Giving false information, start doing your homework, start exercising your mind. I am calm here with my team, stop publishing gaffes 🤡🤡🤡,” Acuña wrote in Spanish on social media.

There are several reasons why the Braves would never trade Acuña, assuming he’s not a locker room cancer. The first is his contract. Acuña is an All-Star talent, and he’s signed to an eight-year, $100 million deal that will pay him through 2028. Were Acuña to hit the open market, the bidding would start at near double that amount.

Second, trading Acuña after this past season doesn’t make a lot of sense. His value is at a low point as he recovers from injury. If Anthopoulos were to seriously consider trading him in the middle of his current deal, it would come after a successful year, when the Braves could reap the rewards.

In the end, such a rumor deserves to be put to bed. Acuña is not up for grabs, at least not now.
