Is Zion Williamson playing in the NBA All-Star Game? Latest injury update

Zion Williamson has been dealing with a lingering hamstring injury all year. Is the Pelicans star going to be able to play in the NBA All-Star Game?

There’s no question that Zion Williamson is one of the brightest young stars in the NBA. It’s just unfortunate that his body hasn’t done him any favors on the injury front.

After missing the 2021-22 season with a foot injury, Williamson came back in All-Star form in the early stages of this campaign.

Unfortunately, he’s been missing from the Pelicans lineup since the beginning of January with a hamstring injury. And a setback for that injury means he won’t be playing on Sunday in the NBA All-Star Game.

Williamson injured his hamstring on Jan. 2 against the 76ers. Then on Feb. 12 Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin revealed that the big man aggravated the injury as he ramped up for a return to action.

At that time, it was pretty clear Williamson wouldn’t be available to suit up for the ASG.

“I think we’re looking at multiple weeks past the All-Star break that he’ll be back,” Griffin said, via ESPN. “What that looks like in terms of timeline, I really can’t tell you. Much as we have throughout this, we’ll continue to image him, and post-All-Star that will happen.”

Despite the injury, Williamson headed out to Salt Lake City for the All-Star Game festivities. He even told reporters that he’s considering participating in the Dunk Contest next year. So that’s something Pelicans fans can look forward to.

Of course, the more pressing concern is getting Williamson healthy enough to play again this season…then keeping him healthy enough to follow through on that Dunk Contest plan.
