Georgia football spring practice: 3 positive signs to watch for in pursuit of 3-peat
By John Buhler
1. Either Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff or Gunner Stockton emerge as a leader
If you want to boil Georgia’s spring practice down to one thing and one thing only, this would be it. It is so beyond imperative for Stetson Bennett IV’s replacement to shine in spring practice. No, it is not about Carson Beck separating himself from Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton, or really any variation of that. It is about the team buying into one of those guys like it did with Bennett.
Mike Bobo taking over as offensive coordinator makes this a more fascinating competition than initially thought. In theory, it would allow either Vandagriff or Stockton to potentially usurp Beck as the presumptive starter. To be honest, whoever loses between Beck or Vandagriff is probably hitting the portal, so get ready for that. Stockton is probably going to be the backup in that case.
Again, this is not about who looks the best throwing a football in gym shorts and a t-shirt. There will be growing pains for all involved running a new offense with increased reps in an open competition. But if we can sense a connection between one quarterback and his teammates the most, then we may have found the right guy to lead the boys out of the tunnel for a three-peat.
Not having a sense over who will be the Week 1 starter at quarterback will be the worst thing ever.
