SEC: This comes as quite the shock that it is South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler comes in as the third quarterback who at one point in his life played at Oklahoma. No, it was not that long ago that Barry McCockiner’s son was absolutely going to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Houston Texans in the 2022 NFL Draft. Houston was still terrible, but Rattler’s draft stock took a major nosedive before the 2021 season. He was benched and then transferred.

As it turns out, Rattler made a pretty wise decision to transfer to South Carolina to reunite with former Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer. It took a few weeks, but the Gamecocks played fantastic ball down the stretch, upsetting rival programs like Tennessee and Clemson. Even though he was maybe the sixth-best quarterback in the SEC last year, he still remains and is now at No. 1.

He edges out LSU’s Jayden Daniels and Mississippi State’s Will Rogers based on his ceiling. Rattler is still inherently reckless, but nowhere to the degree of presumptive Vols starter Joe Milton III. Although whoever wins the starting jobs at Alabama and Georgia could be better than him, for now, we must give the nod to Rattler. Keep an eye on Devin Leary linking up with Liam Coen at UK.

If Rattler plays up to his lofty potential, South Carolina has an outside shot of getting to Atlanta.
