NFL Rumors: Chiefs plan to re-sign JuJu Smith-Schuster, make Kadarius Toney WR1

With so many big-name receivers being made available on the trade market like the aforementioned Allen Robinson, among others, the thought was that the Kansas City Chiefs could potentially get involved as the Super Bowl champions conceivably could use some help in the wide receiver room with Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster hitting free agency.

That, apparently, is not the plan.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the plan right now for the Chiefs is to get the band back together in terms of pass-catchers that they had in the Super Bowl. They plan to try and re-sign Smith-Schuster this offseason, let Hardman walk as his price tag is likely to be too rich on the open market, and then work with midseason trade acquisition Kadarius Toney as their top option at wide receiver.

There were people who doubted what Patrick Mahomes’ passing attack would look like coming into the 2022 season after the Tyreek Hill trade from last offseason. With Travis Kelce still being an elite tight end target (the best, some might say) and then the rest of this group, it obviously worked well.

Perhaps the two biggest keys to this plan working, though, are Skyy Moore taking a step forward and Toney being healthy. That being said, the Chiefs have been savvy at most points in this Andy Reid era, so it’s probably right to have trust in their plans.
