NFL rumors: DeAndre Hopkins may have preferred trade destination
Cardinals trade candidate DeAndre Hopkins apparently wants to go back to the state of Texas but is eyeing the Cowboys instead of the Texans.
DeAndre Hopkins may be on the trade block, which should have every WR-needy team in the NFL sitting up and taking notice.
It doesn’t sound like Hopkins wants to land with just any franchise though. Word on the street is the Cowboys are a top destination on his end. It’s just not clear how interested in the wide receiver Dallas might be.
Jane Slater of NFL Network reported as much on Twitter.
“This is my evening tweet covering my bases. I’ve asked…anything to DHop rumors now with more restructuring and Zeke. A source ‘No DHop talk from us. Guess he’s telling everybody he wants to be a cowboy’,” Slater tweeted
DeAndre Hopkins wants Dallas but do the Cowboys want him?
There’s a big gap between a player wanting to play for a team and actually making it happen.
Cowboys stars like Micah Parsons have openly recruited Hopkins. The linebacker tweeted, “it’s about that time,” while tagging the wide receiver with a series of eyeball emojis.
However, Hopkins’ reply to Parson’s tweet suggests it’s out of his hands. His shrug speaks volume when taken with Slater’s tweet with a source saying, “no DHop talk from us.”

Hopkins can signal all he wants. Cowboys players can make it clear they want him. That doesn’t mean a trade will get done or even be pursued.
The fact that Hopkins is still under contract with Arizona is a major part of the problem. He’s not a free agent who can get picked up with the right contract offer, like Odell Beckham Jr. Bringing him in would require making a deal with the Cardinals by giving up assets. There are other wide receiver trade avenues the Cowboys could pursue. Or they might not think it’s worth it to trade at all.
