Kansas State forward NaeāQwan Tomlin might regret his comments about Kentucky as itās perfect bulletin-board material for Coach Cal and the Wildcats.
Considering that survive and advance doesnāt come with footnotes in March Madness, John Calipari and his Kentucky Wildcats have to feel good as the No. 6 seed in the East Region going into their matchup against the 3-seeded Kansas State Wildcats in the Second Round on Sunday.
Yes, they got a bit of a scare and push from Providence, but Big Blue Nation moved on, which is the only job at hand. They donāt calculate style points when youāre cutting down the nets. At the same time, though, Coach Cal had to feel like his team needed a spark.
Their opponent on Sunday in Kansas State mightāve gifted it to them unprompted.
March Madness: Kentucky gets elite bulletin-board material from Kansas State forward
K-State forwards Keyontae Johnson and NaeāQwan Tomlin were asked about how the matched up against Kentucky. Johnson did fan any flames a bit with his comments, saying that the Big 12ās Wildcats would focus on themselves and had played SEC opponents before and werenāt worried. Then Tomlin took it a touch too far.
āāYeah, like what Keyontae said, I donāt think it will be something that will be much of a challenge besides Oscar, but, you knowā¦,ā he said.
You can see Tomlin and Johnsonās comments in full below.
Yes, Oscar Tshiebwe is someone to worry about given K-Stateās overall lack of size and the fact that the Kentucky big man is coming off of a 25-rebound performance in the First Round win over Providence. But itās not like thatās all of the talent that Calipari has at his disposal.
Frankly, thatās the worst type of comment for a player to make in March. Itās all the motivation needed for an opponent, especially one as talented and hungry as UK, to take it and run with it. Weāll have to see if it soon becomes a Freezing Cold Take as well.
