Are there any perfect brackets left in the 2023 men’s March Madness tournament after No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson’s win over No. 1 Purdue?

The first round of the 2023 men’s NCAA Tournament was not short on upset wins. College basketball fans and casual viewers watched as the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats and No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers lost to the No. 15 Princeton Tigers and No. 13 Furman Paladins, respectively. Just when you thought we were done with upsets, one of the biggest in March Madness history took place on Friday.

The No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson Knights managed to knock out the No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers, the reigning Big Ten Tournament champions, 63-58 to advance to the second round. That’s right, FDU is officially the second No. 16 seed to win a first round matchup, with the first being the 2018 UMBC Retreivers.

With this monumental upset in the books, are there any perfect brackets remaining?

Are there any perfect March Madness brackets remaining after FDU win?

Oh wait, you’re serious? Excuse us while we laugh even harder. The answer is no. There are no perfect brackets remaining.

After Princeton’s win over Arizona on Thursday, there were just 0.12-percent of perfect brackets remaining, according to the official NCAA March Madness Twitter account. That 0.12-percent is now sitting at 0.00-percent.

The amazing thing is that FDU made it into the NCAA Tournament on a technicality. The Knights lost the NEC Tournament Final to the Merrimack Warriors, who were ruled ineligible due to making the jump from Division II to Division I. This was the fourth final year that Merrimack had to sit out of NCAA championships due to the “reclassification process.”

FDU made it out of the First Four by defeating Texas Southern 84-61 to earn the No. 16 seed in the East Region. Two days later, the Knights made history by defeating Purdue.

Now, the Knights will play the winner of the No. 8 Memphis vs. No. 9 Florida Atlantic matchup in the second round on Sunday, March 19.
